Software Engineer (Space Systems)

Location: Hybrid work model at offices in Manchester, Stevenage, or Harwell/D बेDidcot, United Kingdom

What you will do

• Design and develop on-board software and ground test software for payloads.
• Derive software designs from requirements and deliver product-level software to internal and external customers.
• Identify root causes, develop test cases, and implement robust solutions.
• Estimate resources and plan end-to-end software delivery.
• Document APIs and code and present technical information to software and validation teams.
• Share knowledge proactively and travel to MDA or partner locations when needed for project delivery.

Requirements

• Proven ability to derive software designs from requirements.
• Experience developing Python applications and modules.
• Experience developing C/C++ systems using Linux.
• Experience with formal development, testing, integration, and documentation processes and associated tools such as Git and Jenkins.
• Proven track record of developing quality software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, scheduling, documentation, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to execute assigned work to schedule with attention to detail and identify, quantify, and flag problems.
• BPSS screening is required, including confirmation of the right to work, nationality and immigration status in the UK, identity verification, criminal-record checks, employment-history verification for at least three years, and reference checks.

Nice to have

• Experience designing high-availability or secure software systems.
• Knowledge of wireless telecommunications systems.
• Knowledge and application of Python numerical libraries such as NumPy and Matplotlib.
• Experience operating and automating radio-frequency test equipment.
• Knowledge of the Linux kernel and device drivers.
• Knowledge of electronics hardware, including phased arrays and processor electronics.
