Hirify AI/Оригинал
TL;DR
Hardware Test Technician - Lab Manager (Consumer Electronics/IoT Hardware): Running and scaling a physical hardware test lab for connected consumer devices with an accent on electrical, wireless, environmental, reliability, soldering, rework, and returns testing. Focus on designing repeatable fixtures and automated test harnesses, tracing failures to root cause, and maintaining safe, reliable lab operations.
Location: On-site in Fremont, California, United States; this is a physical lab role.
Salary: $115,000–$135,000 USD base salary annually; final pay varies by background, skills, experience, and US geographic tier. Total compensation also includes RSUs and benefits.
Company
hirify.global builds a family safety platform with a mobile app, Tile tracking devices, Pet GPS trackers, and connected hardware serving more than 102.4 million monthly active users across over 180 countries.
What you will do
Run the hardware test lab, execute electrical, power, functional, wireless, environmental, and product-reliability test sequences, and maintain traceable records.
Own lab equipment, calibration, fixtures, parts inventory, purchasing, services, deliveries, ESD controls, and safe battery/material handling.
Triage customer and field returns, reproduce failures, identify likely root causes, trend defects, and route deeper analysis to engineering.
Build test fixtures, jigs, cabling, interfaces, and instrumentation; perform precise hand soldering, PCB modifications, and small-board rework.
Use AI tools and light scripting to build device and instrument test harnesses and automate repeatable test sequences.
Track samples, shipments, beta materials, and device logistics while improving lab safety, organization, documentation, and scalability.
Requirements
Several years of hands-on experience in an electronics or hardware test lab; consumer electronics experience is a plus.
Associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Self-directed, organized, safety-minded, and able to run a lab independently with strong documentation and data-logging habits.
Clear communication skills, early problem escalation, and curiosity about following failures to root cause.
Excellent hand soldering and small-board rework skills, including BGA, QFN, fine-pitch packages down to 0201/01005, complex rework, and PCB modifications.
Experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, power supplies, fixture and cable building, light scripting, test-fixture design, and ESD-safe practices.
Experience with electrical and power measurements, battery charge/discharge and capacity testing, ESD testing, drop and temperature/humidity testing, thermal cycling, continuity checks, component troubleshooting, and schematic reading.
Some familiarity with basic RF/wireless bench checks, such as transmit-power or signal-strength measurements.
Experience with defect analysis, production quality, customer or field quality, returns analysis, and linking field failures to root cause.
Some familiarity with AI tools and willingness to learn; deep AI experience is not required.
Nice to have
Product-reliability testing such as tumble, mechanical shock, random or sine vibration, thermal shock, HAST, HALT, and HASS.
Ingress and durability testing, including IPX7/IP68, salt fog, corrosion, button and connector life cycling, and chemical or materials exposure.
Broader mechanical test-rig experience and knowledge of ASTM or ISO test standards.
OTA RF testing in an anechoic chamber, TRP/TIS, and GPS/GNSS testing with a constellation simulator.
Pre-compliance or certification testing involving FCC, UL, or IEC.
IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or ESD certification.
Culture & Benefits
Mission-driven culture guided by integrity, direct communication, member-focused decisions, and high-impact execution.
Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans fully paid for employees.
Paid parental leave, flexible PTO, company holidays, and summer and winter shutdowns.
401(k) with company matching, mental wellness and EAP programs, and learning and development opportunities.
Equipment, tools, and reimbursement support for remote work, plus free hirify.global Platinum Membership and Tile trackers.
hirify.global is otherwise remote-first, but this position requires regular on-site work in the physical lab.
