Device Engineer II (RF/EMC)

Location: Tysons, Virginia; employees work from the office 4 days a week

Base salary range: $88,300–$122,550 USD annually

What you will do

• Independently plan and perform RF performance and EMC pre-compliance testing for multi-radio hardware against product and regulatory requirements.
• Document and analyze test results, explain product impact, and communicate findings to design and program teams.
• Design and tune single- and multi-band antenna matching networks and characterize antennas in product enclosures.
• Review RF front ends, antennas, schematics, PCB layouts, and EMI-sensitive circuits; troubleshoot failures and verify bench-tested design changes.
• Contribute to RF circuit blocks, antenna and EMI simulations, regulatory certification testing, sample preparation, and external laboratory testing.
• Automate repeated measurements and data processing to improve test throughput and reliability using software tools and AI.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, with coursework or experience in RF, microwave, or EMC.
• 2+ years of hands-on RF or EMC testing; graduate research and co-ops count toward this experience.
• Ability to scope work independently, follow through, and communicate progress and blockers early.
• Experience analyzing RF and EMC test results and explaining findings to non-RF team members.
• Hands-on use of spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, DC power analyzers, and cellular communication testers.
• Ability to design single-band impedance matching networks from VNA measurements using Smith chart fundamentals.
• Understanding of EMI types, sources, and mitigation through filtering, shielding, grounding, and layout.
• Experience reading schematics and PCB layouts.
• Familiarity with cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and sub-GHz IoT protocols.
• Clear written and verbal communication with design and program teams.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with multi-band antenna matching and antenna characterization, including efficiency, gain, and pattern measurements in an anechoic chamber.
• Experience with Ansys HFSS, SIwave, or similar electromagnetic simulation tools.
• RF schematic capture or PCB layout experience, such as with Altium.
• Experience with FCC, ISED, and CE/RED certification processes and preparing devices for external laboratories.
• Python scripting for lab-test automation and data processing, including AI-assisted tools.
