Software Engineer (Java/Spring)

What you will do

• Design and build a new Java 25 and Spring Boot booking service running on AWS and virtual threads.
• Define architecture, carrier integration patterns, failure handling, API contracts, and the migration path from the legacy Python service.
• Build resilient carrier integrations with timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limits, and JSON Schema validation.
• Develop asynchronous SQS-based flows with idempotency, retries, dead-letter handling, and versioned contracts.
• Improve scalability and reliability through database modeling, performance tuning, load and stress testing, observability, and production support.
• Own features end to end, including automated testing, GitHub CI/CD, AWS deployments, legacy parallel runs, safe cutovers, and code reviews.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional backend development experience with a strong Java background and recent Java versions; the production runtime is Java 25.
• Solid Spring Boot and Spring MVC experience, including virtual threads and JVM concurrency.
• Experience with external HTTP APIs, resilient integrations using Resilience4j or similar, REST/OpenAPI contract design, JSON Schema validation, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Proven experience with microservices and distributed systems, including failure modes, consistency, idempotency, backpressure, horizontal scaling, stateless design, connection pooling, and caching.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Amazon SQS, CloudWatch, secure configuration and secrets management, PostgreSQL or another relational database, and OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with unit, integration, REST API, contract, and regression testing using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, REST Assured, Postman, Gatling, k6, or JMeter.
• Experience with Maven, Git, GitHub, CI/CD quality gates, clean code, SOLID principles, refactoring, design patterns, and static analysis.
• Very good written and spoken English, plus Python experience or a genuine willingness to read and work in Python.
• Practical experience using Claude or similar AI coding assistants and reviewing generated code and designs for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure as code with Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation, and container platforms such as ECS or EKS with autoscaling.
• Experience migrating or replacing production legacy systems using strangler fig patterns, parallel runs, shadow traffic, or feature flags.
• OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, AWS X-Ray, dashboards, and SLO-based alerting.
• JVM profiling and tuning with Java Flight Recorder, async-profiler, or garbage collection tuning.
• Resilience and chaos testing, messaging patterns such as outbox and sagas, exactly-once-style processing over at-least-once delivery, and AWS cost optimization.
• OAuth2/OIDC, OWASP API Top 10, GDPR basics, and secure handling of customer data.
• Experience creating reusable AI-assisted team workflows, prompts, review checklists, or Claude Code setups.
