Buyer (AI Radar)

Location: Hoffman Estates, Illinois, United States; onsite role. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and may be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Compensation range: $75,000–$95,000 per year. Actual placement within the range depends on experience.

What you will do

• Purchase electronic components, mechanical parts, assemblies, materials, equipment, and services for prototypes, pilot builds, and production.
• Request and compare quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, issue purchase orders, and manage orders through receipt and closeout.
• Track supplier commitments, late orders, shortages, delivery risks, and recovery plans, using expedited orders, alternate sources, and partial shipments as needed.
• Work with Engineering and Quality on specifications, approved sources, component alternatives, design changes, supplier quality issues, and advance purchases for long-lead parts.
• Coordinate supplier onboarding and resolve pricing, quantity, receiving, invoice, and return discrepancies.
• Maintain purchasing and planning data, report order and supplier performance, support inventory counts and audits, and improve procurement processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or materials in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience purchasing electronic components, machined parts, assemblies, or other technically complex materials for engineering or production builds.
• Experience managing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, expediting materials, and resolving delivery or order discrepancies.
• Working knowledge of ERP or MRP systems and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to interpret bills of material, part specifications, drawings, and supplier quotes, with technical support when needed.
• Clear communication with suppliers and internal teams regarding commitments, risks, and required decisions.
• Demonstrated success negotiating lower prices and shorter lead times through practical supplier solutions.
• Ability to manage many open orders accurately, anticipate shortages, adjust priorities as build schedules change, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship is required; future U.S. government security clearance may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, defense, electronics, industrial technology, or regulated manufacturing.
• Familiarity with supplier qualification, source inspections, configuration control, engineering changes, new product introduction, or production ramps.
• Knowledge of government procurement requirements, including FAR/DFARS.
