Legal Counsel

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada; hybrid with 3 days per week in the office

Salary: CA$130K–CA$150K plus bonus

What you will do

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage technology and commercial agreements, including master services, data supplier, licensing, data processing, partner, reseller, and vendor contracts.
• Advise internal stakeholders on deal objectives, contractual risk, and practical execution.
• Support new products, business models, market launches, and commercial transactions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, Product, Finance, Privacy, Information Security, and Compliance.
• Make decisions within agreed risk thresholds and escalate matters outside them.
• Improve templates, playbooks, and workflows; use approved AI tools with human validation and confidentiality safeguards.

Requirements

• LL.B., J.D., or equivalent degree.
• Good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or another Canadian law society.
• 3–5 years of post-qualification legal experience in private practice and/or in-house, with flexibility for otherwise strong matches.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts for technology or SaaS businesses, including customer-facing agreements.
• Strong knowledge of software licensing, service levels, intellectual property, data protection, and commercial risk allocation.
• Practical fluency with AI-powered legal and productivity tools, including responsible use for drafting, review, research, and workflow improvement with output verification.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder-management, business, prioritization, and independent matter-management skills.
• Collaborative, accountable, solutions-oriented approach with confidence to challenge constructively and drive matters to completion.

Nice to have

• Commercial transaction experience in a high-growth environment or in identity verification, KYC/KYB, AML, financial services, or another regulated industry.
• Knowledge of GDPR, PIPEDA, comparable privacy regimes, and legal issues related to personal data protection.
