Privacy Counsel and Data Protection Officer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto GTA or New York.

Salary: $150K–$180K plus equity.

hirify.global is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI, including systems for data capture, labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems.

What you will do

• Own and develop the privacy and data protection programme across markets and capture models, including processing records, impact assessments, retention schedules, policies, and privacy training.
• Perform the DPO function independently, monitor compliance, advise on obligations and risk, and act as the contact for data subjects and supervisory authorities.
• Manage consent and transparency standards, including consent forms, privacy notices, disclosures, records, partner agreements, and vendor agreements.
• Implement and monitor cross-border transfer mechanisms, regulatory registrations, local data protection representative appointments, and filings.
• Partner with engineering, product, security, and quality teams on redaction, encryption, access controls, data minimization, deletion, and privacy reviews before launches and customer deliveries.
• Lead responses to data incidents, data subject requests, complaints, and regulator inquiries, while managing outside privacy counsel, scopes, and budgets.

Requirements

• Law degree and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
• 5 to 8+ years of privacy and data protection practice, including experience at a top-tier law firm and in-house at a high-growth technology, marketplace, AI, or data company.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the DPO function independently and objectively and communicate directly with senior management and regulators.
• Hands-on experience advising on data protection regimes in several countries at once, including consent, cross-border transfers, data protection impact assessments, data breach response, and regulator registration.
• Experience managing outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
• Ability to translate complex privacy requirements into practical controls for engineering, operations, and delivery teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with video, image, biometric, or location data, or datasets collected or processed for machine learning training.
• Privacy certification such as CIPP/E, CIPP/A, or CIPM.
• In-house experience at a marketplace, delivery, AI, data, or gig platform operating across emerging markets.
• Experience with SOC 2 compliance or audit-readiness initiatives.
• Experience communicating with data protection authorities, responding to regulatory inquiries, and managing multi-jurisdictional personal data incidents.
