Counsel – Artificial Intelligence & Innovation Governance (AI)

Location: United States Work at Home; Remote

Annual salary: USD 115,700–192,900, depending on experience and geographic location; eligible for an annual bonus plan.

What you will do

• Monitor and interpret federal, state, and international AI, machine learning, automated decision-making, and emerging technology laws, regulations, guidance, and enforcement developments.
• Review proposed AI and machine-learning use cases, identify legal requirements, assess risks, and provide guidance across the AI lifecycle.
• Review, draft, and negotiate AI, intellectual property, data, licensing, vendor, technology, and commercial contract provisions.
• Develop AI and IP contractual provisions, negotiation guidance, playbooks, policies, standards, training, and governance resources.
• Support intellectual property counsel with employee IP obligations, ownership, licensing, protection, commercialization, and enterprise IP initiatives.
• Build and improve intake, triage, documentation, escalation, tracking, and other workflows for AI and IP legal support.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 3+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, government agency, or combination thereof.
• Experience with technology, privacy, data, commercial contracting, artificial intelligence, or related legal matters.
• Strong legal research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret evolving laws and translate complex requirements into practical guidance.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating technology, software, data, cloud, or vendor agreements.
• Ability to translate legal requirements into practical processes and workflows, identify material risks, recommend mitigations, escalate issues when appropriate, and maintain consistent execution.
• Ability to collaborate with attorneys, compliance professionals, governance teams, technical teams, and business stakeholders while managing multiple priorities in a rapidly evolving area of law.

Nice to have

• Experience or demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, automated decision-making, or emerging technology law.
• Familiarity with U.S. and international AI legal and regulatory frameworks and experience reviewing technology or AI use cases.
• Experience negotiating provisions involving AI, data use, model training, intellectual property, or generative AI.
• Experience with intellectual property, privacy, data protection, healthcare, health insurance, pharmacy benefit management, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience improving legal review processes, intake workflows, playbooks, templates, or other efficiency tools.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary legal, compliance, governance, risk, or technology teams.
