Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; office-centric hybrid with in-office work on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Work-from-home availability varies by day, work type, and team.

Base salary: $202,000–$230,000 per year, excluding equity, sales incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and deliver medium-to-large projects across the AI Teammates execution engine, tool orchestration, platform APIs, and events.
• Build composable platform foundations, harnesses, and agentic memory that enable product teams to develop AI capabilities independently.
• Design performant, extensible systems for agentic execution, prompt-driven automation, tool integrations, and enterprise-grade reliability.
• Improve model evaluation, latency, cost efficiency, quality infrastructure, and production reliability.
• Drive architecture initiatives, re-architecture, technical documentation, evaluation methodologies, and engineering quality improvements.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Science, product engineering teams, and external model providers including OpenAI and Anthropic; mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems, microservices, or complex backend architectures.
• Experience as a Tech Lead or AoR owner driving multi-contributor projects across teams and services from ambiguity to delivery.
• Strong ownership and accountability for outcomes, including identifying and communicating risks early.
• Product- and customer-first approach using customer feedback, production data, and evaluation results to shape technical direction.
• Strong design-documentation skills and sound judgment across latency, cost, determinism, maintainability, and execution risk trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience or deep interest in LLMs, agentic patterns, evaluation pipelines, RAG, or real-time streaming.
• Ability to learn new domains, codebases, and AI technologies quickly.
• Passion for mentoring engineers through actionable code and design feedback.
