TL;DR
Support Engineer (Robotics): Building and maintaining reliable electromechanical systems for robotics and autonomous platforms with an accent on fleet support, rapid prototyping, CAD-based test fixtures, and hardware failure analysis. Focus on diagnosing hardware and software faults, managing repair and RMA workflows, validating batteries and embedded systems, and turning recurring fleet issues into scalable design improvements.

Location: San Mateo, CA, United States

Base salary: $70,000–$150,000 USD per year

Company

hirify.global is building general-purpose robotic intelligence that adapts to unseen scenarios through data-driven machine learning for widespread robot deployment.

What you will do

  • Own fleet uptime by troubleshooting, root-causing, and repairing electromechanical failures, and managing RMA workflows through return to service.
  • Track fleet failures, identify recurring issues, and produce root-cause reports that drive design and process improvements.
  • Build, test, and iterate prototypes and full systems with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineers.
  • Design CAD fixtures, jigs, enclosures, and harnesses; fabricate parts and produce machining-ready drawings using GD&T.
  • Bring up and troubleshoot PCBAs, harnesses, sensors, power systems, and embedded communication interfaces using bench equipment, firmware tools, logs, and diagnostic scripts.
  • Maintain lithium battery systems, document tests and failure analyses, manage version-controlled design files and BOMs, and support component sourcing.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years in a prototype, development, or failure-analysis lab.
  • Experience with robotic, vehicle, or drone hardware, including PCBAs, harnesses, actuators, sensors, and power systems.
  • Ability to methodically root-cause hardware failures, communicate findings clearly, and act on them.
  • Working knowledge of circuits, power distribution, signal integrity, electrical components, schematics, cable drawings, and test procedures.
  • Experience with SMD soldering and rework down to 0402, including hot-air and microscope work, plus harness assembly and rework to IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
  • Strong mechanical fundamentals covering tolerance and fit analysis, material selection, fasteners, vibration, and DFM for printed, machined, and sheet-metal parts.
  • Comfort with parametric CAD, Linux, macOS, and Windows terminals, bash, SSH, serial tools, and basic Python or bash scripting.
  • Experience with FDM/SLA 3D printing and basic machine-shop skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing hardware and priorities.

Nice to have

  • Onshape experience for parametric CAD.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on engineering work across robotics, autonomous platforms, integrated hardware, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Collaboration with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineering teams.
  • Opportunity to contribute alongside colleagues ranging from new graduates to domain experts.
