Field Application Engineer – Robotics Networking (Robotics Networking)

Location: USA home office; all US locations considered, with preference for the California Bay Area, Boston metro, Detroit metro, or Austin. Travel, primarily within the US, is required.

Base salary: $166,200–$228,500 annually. The stated range is specific to California and may vary by location, qualifications, skills, and organizational factors.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical lead and system-level expert for robotics networking solutions, guiding customers through Ethernet switch, PHY, and SerDes selection, bring-up, and software integration.
• Architect and support zonal and microzonal in-robot networks, including Single-Pair Ethernet backbones, 10BASE-T1S segments, and PoDL power-and-data distribution.
• Provide hands-on design support through schematic reviews, bench bring-up, lab debugging, signal analysis, and performance validation for deterministic Ethernet and real-time protocols.
• Deliver on-site and remote proof-of-concept builds using evaluation kits and reference designs for autonomous mobile robots, drones, and humanoid platforms.
• Lead webinars, workshops, and customer deep-dives on the robotics networking portfolio.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development or applications support with networking, switch, or SoC platforms, including demonstrated technical leadership.
• Systems-level understanding of humanoids, autonomous mobile robots, and drones, including networking across compute, perception, motor-control, and power subsystems.
• Proficiency in C/C++ firmware development and debugging with ARM microcontrollers.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Ethernet controllers, switches, and PHY technologies, including MAC/PHY/DMA, switch configuration, BASE-T1, and 10BASE-T1S.
• Experience with deterministic real-time Ethernet, including TSN and EtherCAT, and familiarity with PoDL for robotics power-and-data distribution.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with schematic review, signal analysis, and laboratory tools.
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences and the ability to work autonomously.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of CAN FD, CAN SIC, and CAN XL, including use in joint modules, battery-management systems, and zonal nodes.
• Familiarity with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, NuttX, embedded Linux, Ethernet drivers, switchdev, ROS 2, DDS, and PREEMPT_RT.
• Familiarity with SerDes, PCIe Gen3/Gen4, and high-speed signal integrity.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards IEC 61508 and ISO 13849, cybersecurity standard IEC 62443, and Ethernet segmentation technologies including VLANs, MACsec, and IEEE 802.1X.
