Senior Staff Applied Scientist, Science Platform (AI)

Location: Remote - United States. The role is 100% remote; hybrid/onsite work is available from offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Base salary: $232,500-$325,500 USD annually, plus potential equity and, depending on the position, commission.

What you will do

• Define the scientific roadmap for agentic analytics, causal inference, and forecasting across the Data Science Platform.
• Research, evaluate, prototype, validate, and productionize emerging scientific methods.
• Design the analytics agent’s architecture for question decomposition, method selection, data and tool use, assumption checks, and reproducible results.
• Build reusable causal inference tools for estimating effects from observational data and shared forecasting capabilities for product and business metrics.
• Create benchmarks, simulations, evaluation frameworks, and automated checks for agent-generated analyses.
• Implement scientific methods in production Python software and collaborate on libraries, APIs, pipelines, observability, documentation, and workflows.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related discipline, or a master’s degree with comparable depth of expertise.
• At least eight years of relevant industry experience after a doctorate, or ten years with a master’s degree, in applied science, data science, scientific software development, or related roles.
• Deep knowledge of statistical inference and econometrics, including causal methods for observational data and evaluation of the assumptions supporting credible conclusions.
• Experience deploying forecasting systems with time-series modeling, temporal validation, prediction intervals, and performance assessment under changing conditions.
• Strong production Python engineering skills, including API design, automated testing, code review, version control, and operational monitoring.
• Ability to assess scientific literature, reproduce findings, and turn promising methods into reliable software.
• Experience developing LLM applications or analytical agents using tool use, code execution, and systematic output evaluation.
• Ability to communicate statistical assumptions, uncertainty, and technical tradeoffs to business audiences; mentor technical contributors; and make progress on ambiguous, consequential problems.

Nice to have

• Publications, open-source contributions, or widely adopted internal tools in agentic analytics, causal inference, forecasting, or related fields.
• Experience building scientific libraries or platforms used by data scientists, with interfaces accessible to people with different levels of statistical expertise.
• Experience building agents at scale that retrieve data and context, select methods, execute Python or SQL, and validate findings.
