Commercial Counsel Fellowship (Generative AI)

Location: Remote within the U.S.; preference for candidates near the New York City or San Francisco offices

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year for U.S. candidates

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate B2B SaaS customer contracts for generative AI platforms and APIs, DPAs, partnership agreements, and vendor agreements.
• Partner with sales by providing fast, practical legal guidance to help close deals.
• Scale and automate commercial processes through templates, playbooks, contract review automation, and the legal technology stack.
• Learn the technical foundations of generative AI products and provide business advice grounded in how they work.
• Research technical, legal, and policy developments in generative AI and share relevant findings.
• Contribute, depending on interests, to privacy, intellectual property, product counseling, or compliance projects.

Requirements

• J.D. and admission in good standing to at least one state bar, or eligibility to sit for the bar before the fellowship starts.
• 0–3 years of legal experience, including experience at a law firm, in a clerkship, in-house, or government role.
• Strong academic record with excellent legal writing and analytical skills.
• Bias for action, willingness to take ownership, and an operational mindset.
• Growth mindset with eagerness to learn quickly, receive feedback, and improve how work gets done.
• Clear, practical communication with non-lawyers.
• Excitement about generative AI and motivation to learn about the legal landscape governing the industry.

Nice to have

• Exposure to technology transactions, SaaS agreements, intellectual property, or data privacy through practice, coursework, a clinic, or a summer associate role.
• Experience using AI tools in legal work.
• Familiarity with how AI or software products are built.
