Senior Staff Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Mountain View, CA or San Francisco, CA; flexible hybrid work model

US base salary: $262,000–$369,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement massive-scale, secure data infrastructure and shared backend services for Tapestry’s Agentic Data Platform.
• Build LLM-enabled semantic ingestion, enrichment, discovery, and retrieval for multimodal data.
• Develop low-latency streaming infrastructure for large-scale data processing, AI simulations, and grid optimization.
• Build sensitive-data protection and governance mechanisms in partnership with security and product teams.
• Coordinate migration of teams to the platform without downtime and collaborate with engineers, AI researchers, product managers, and power-systems experts.
• Work with external partners to refine requirements and rapidly prototype technical solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8 years of experience building complex, enterprise-grade software systems and applications, with strong computer science fundamentals and attention to performance and memory usage.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, consensus-building, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proficiency in at least one major backend language; Java, Kotlin, or Golang preferred.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, gRPC, event-driven design patterns, and Cloud SQL using PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience managing multimodal data, including blobs, structured data, free-form text, databases, and objects.
• Knowledge of logging and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or GCP Cloud Monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, or AWS/Azure.

Nice to have

• Background in power systems or electric-grid technologies.
• Experience with data governance, data protection, or data sovereignty.
• Experience building full-stack applications with frameworks such as Angular.
• Knowledge of enterprise security architectures, compliance standards, and zero-trust security models.
• Experience in high-growth or zero-to-one environments.
