Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York, NY, United States

Salary: $252,000–$315,000 USD base salary annually, with potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and reliability of foundational data storage, streaming, caching, indexing, and related platform systems.
• Work with stakeholders and internal customers to define and refine requirements, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver new features.
• Improve programming practices through process enhancements and tooling upgrades.
• Present technical information and provide guidance on development processes and technologies.
• Provide technical leadership, uphold engineering standards, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of full-time engineering experience after graduation, specializing in backend systems and large-scale data storage, streaming, and warehousing.
• Extensive experience with databases such as MongoDB and Postgres; streaming and processing technologies such as Kinesis, Flink, and Spark; indexing and caching technologies such as Elasticsearch and Redis; and query engines such as Trino, Presto, and Snowflake.
• Track record of mentoring and leading teams through successful projects.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Fluency with containerization and deployment technologies such as Kubernetes and public cloud platforms.
• Extensive software development experience and deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and data systems.
• Experience driving cross-functional collaboration and communication at an organizational or broader level.

Nice to have

• Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices and CI/CD tooling such as CircleCI.
• Experience tuning performance and optimizing costs for cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience defining data lifecycle strategies and implementing tooling for data privacy requirements such as GDPR.
• Experience scaling products at hyper-growth startups.
• Interest in working with AI technologies.
