(Senior) Engineer, Payload AIT Laboratory (Aerospace)

Location: Fully onsite at the payload-development laboratory in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg; occasional travel within Europe to suppliers, radiation-testing premises and training providers.

What you will do

• Operate the payload AIT development laboratory, including bench allocation, ESD-protected areas, access control and segregation of flight-representative hardware.
• Manage equipment and asset registers, goods-in inspection, storage, spares and consumables.
• Own calibration and metrology control, including recall scheduling, external calibration coordination, certificates, labelling, quarantine and traceability records.
• Operate and maintain workshop equipment, including tooling, consumables, 3D printers and CNC machinery.
• Manufacture test fixtures, brackets, adapters, jigs, protective covers and non-flight MGSE parts from controlled models and drawings.
• Manufacture, modify and repair test and engineering-model harnesses, and perform continuity, insulation-resistance and pin-out acceptance testing before first mate.

Requirements

• Technical diploma, apprenticeship, HND/BTS or bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory, workshop, integration, test or production environment.
• Practical electrical assembly and rework skills, including crimping, connector assembly, soldering, cable routing and labelling.
• Hands-on experience safely operating workshop machinery, including CNC milling or turning and manual machining.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wire lists, schematics and work instructions, including tolerances.
• Competence in dimensional measurement using callipers and micrometers, with sound judgement of part conformance.
• Disciplined documentation, inventory and traceability practices, with a methodical, process-oriented approach and willingness to learn new disciplines.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearance is essential, with willingness to undergo the clearance procedure.

Nice to have

• Space-grade workmanship certification such as ECSS/ESA or IPC/J-STD-001; training is provided.
• CAD/CAM literacy for preparing manufacturing files and making minor model corrections in SolidWorks.
• Experience with calibration or metrology management, inventory control, cleanroom operations or contamination control.
• Knowledge of another European language.
