Ground Operations Engineer (IRIS2)

Location: Betzdorf, Luxembourg; at least 60% onsite from the office required. Domestic and international travel is required.

hirify.global operates satellite communications services and is developing the IRIS2 multi-orbit ground segment.

What you will do

• Design and document ground segment architecture and operational processes for IRIS2 across gateways, terrestrial networks, 5G Core, user terminals, and assurance systems.
• Contribute to operational plans for the 5G Core Network and supporting infrastructure, including terminal authentication, commissioning, resource management, routing, and network interconnection.
• Define monitoring, fault detection, incident management, service assurance, KPI measurement, and troubleshooting approaches for ground systems and services.
• Coordinate with internal teams, consortium partners, suppliers, institutional customers, and satellite engineering leads to align requirements and validate designs against orbital and payload constraints.
• Support specifications, technical standards, security and regulatory compliance, customer deliverables, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
• Recommend automation, operational tooling, and technology improvements for reliable and scalable LEO/MEO ground operations.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
• Relevant experience in satellite ground segment operations, telecommunications networks, 5G Core, secure networking, gateway operations, service assurance, or network/service operations engineering.
• Good understanding of satellite communications systems, preferably including LEO/MEO environments, gateway infrastructure, TT&C operations, user terminal operations, and terrestrial network integration.
• Experience operating the Secure Network, 5G Core Network, Communication Gateways, and TT&C Gateways.
• Experience with service assurance, monitoring, fault and incident management, KPI definition, troubleshooting, operational performance reporting, and assurance systems covering the whole ground segment.
• Experience contributing to operational concepts, CONOPS, technical specifications, design documentation, standards, and customer deliverables.
• Systems thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, strong technical documentation ability, stakeholder management, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a complex multi-stakeholder programme.
• Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential, with readiness to undergo the required security clearance procedure.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, is required.

• Experience with automation, operational tooling, feasibility studies, or proof-of-concept initiatives.
• Additional European languages.
