Member of Technical Staff - Engineering Lead (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; onsite. Visa sponsorship and a relocation stipend to San Francisco are available if needed.

What you will do

• Lead product engineering work to take the certification platform to general availability.
• Increase the number of customers certified with less manual work and bring more auditors onto the product.
• Help determine the post-GA product direction with the founders through product judgment and experiments.
• Manage at least four engineers initially and build the product engineering team.
• Participate in hiring loops and own hiring for the team within a year.
• Split time across hands-on building, management, and hiring while co-running the team with another engineering lead.

Requirements

• Experience as an engineering manager or tech lead manager at a top-tier engineering company, with startup experience, or experience founding a company and hiring and managing a team.
• End-to-end delivery of customer-facing products, with the ability to explain product and technical decisions in detail.
• Direct experience managing engineers and supporting their growth.
• Interest in continuing to build hands-on, with approximately one third of the time spent working with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, and AWS.
• Excellent work inside a system built by someone else, alongside startup or founder experience; 8+ years is typical, while founders who have hired and managed may have fewer.
• Ability to co-run a team, split reports, share decisions, and make difficult decisions together.
• Deep ML, PyTorch, or evals experience is not required.
