Software Engineer - Applied AI, Defense Applications (AI)

Location: New York, NY, US; hybrid work

Salary: $145,000–$200,000/year, excluding potential sign-on bonus, benefits, and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Design and build AI agents that help defense and intelligence users investigate complex questions, analyze operational data, develop plans, and produce actionable work.
• Improve agent experience through data-driven evaluations of memory, tools, skills, context management, and fine-tuning.
• Build interfaces for directing agents, monitoring progress, inspecting evidence, reviewing proposed actions, and refining results.
• Collaborate with users, designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to improve workflows and create cohesive product experiences.
• Own features from experimentation through production deployment and turn mission needs into reliable, reusable capabilities.
• Optimize applications for speed and scalability through performance analysis and work with high-scale, complex data.

Requirements

• Experience coding in Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages.
• Strong software engineering skills and experience delivering production applications.
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript.
• Engineering background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or a similar field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to iterate quickly with teammates, incorporate feedback, and maintain a high quality bar.
• Active US Security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain a US Security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience building applications with LLMs, including tool design, context management, agent workflows, or evaluation.
• Strong product instincts and attention to detail when making complex software intuitive and useful.
• Ability to learn independently, ask effective questions, make decisions, and iterate directly with users.
• Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and judgment about applying them to real user problems.
