Senior Backend Software Engineer (TypeScript)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; hybrid/remote flexibility is available within a company based 100% in the US.

What you will do

• Maintain and develop the TypeScript/MERN backend using Fastify and MongoDB.
• Define and refine product requirements with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Convert behavioral and UX specifications into technical requirements and scopes.
• Lead engineering execution and own the full software development life cycle on a per-project basis.
• Design REST/RPC APIs, data models, database queries, and indexes.
• Deliver well-tested and documented features through an AI-assisted docs-as-code framework.

Requirements

• Senior-level backend software engineering experience and strong coding skills.
• Professional experience building products with TypeScript, NodeJS, and MongoDB.
• Required conversational fluency in AWS and cloud computing concepts.
• Demonstrable experience with data modeling, query and database index optimization, and REST/RPC API development.
• Ability to define technical requirements, refine scope, and lead a development team.
• Knowledge of SOLID and DRY principles, test-driven development, refactoring strategies, and synchronous/asynchronous system trade-offs.
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders and engineers while maintaining a high quality and accountability standard.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD and Terraform.
• Frontend experience with React or Preact.
• Previous startup product-building experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
