SQL Developer & Analyst Team Lead (Healthcare Data)

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and coordinate SQL developers and data analysts, including task assignment, prioritization, technical reviews, onboarding, and performance improvement.
• Develop, review, and optimize advanced SQL queries, scripts, and transformation logic in SQL Server while establishing coding, peer review, and performance standards.
• Oversee healthcare data analysis, integration, migration, source-to-target mappings, data models, and data warehouse structures supporting EHR modernization.
• Direct data quality monitoring, validation, reconciliation, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions for clinical datasets.
• Coordinate with program leadership, VA stakeholders, development, and QA teams; review technical findings, reports, dashboards, and recurring deliverables.
• Maintain data dictionaries, runbooks, validation protocols, Agile workflows, and responsible AI-assisted development standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline, or eight additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree, plus at least eight years of relevant professional experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience with advanced SQL queries, scripts, data transformation, Microsoft SQL Server, large complex datasets, indexing, normalization, and performance tuning.
• Experience leading or serving as a technical lead for SQL development, data analysis, or data engineering teams, including work assignment, standards, deliverable review, and technical guidance.
• Experience analyzing healthcare or clinical datasets, including HL7, FHIR, or VistA, data migration and validation, relational databases, and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to investigate complex data discrepancies, assess technical risks, implement solutions, mentor technical personnel, manage competing priorities, and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates must successfully complete a background check and be able to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including fingerprinting when required.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting VA healthcare data systems such as VX130, Oracle Health Millennium, or the Corporate Data Warehouse, with InterSystems IRIS, Caché, mirrored database architectures, EHR migration, cutover verification, and healthcare data governance.
• Experience leading technical teams in Agile environments using JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar tools, including sprint planning, backlog management, peer reviews, documentation, metadata management, and data quality coordination.
• Experience implementing AI-assisted development with tools such as GitHub Copilot for SQL optimization, automated validation, reconciliation, trend analysis, and documentation, including output review, PHI/PII protection, and federal responsible AI compliance.
