Mechanical Design Engineer, Sr (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid in Shelby, North Carolina, United States. Must be a US Citizen; the position may involve export-controlled information and additional security screening.

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 annually.

Designs, manufactures, and supports electro-mechanical actuation products and systems for aerospace, defense, and industrial automation applications, including flight controls, landing gear, doors, ramps, hatches, weapons handling, radar, launch platforms, and robotic actuation.

What you will do

• Design and analyze moderately complex mechanical systems, electronic components, equipment, and packaging to meet customer requirements and manufacturability needs.
• Conduct feasibility studies, development testing, data analysis, and technical reporting with Test Engineers.
• Support detailed design, prototype fabrication, equipment installation, debugging, and production testing.
• Provide engineering design, maintenance, training, and technical support to manufacturing operations.
• Plan and coordinate engineering-solution documentation, reporting, publishing, and technical presentations.
• Support failure investigations, bid responses, and MRB dispositions for non-conforming products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–10 years of experience.
• US citizenship is required.
• Experience creating moderately complex mechanical designs to meet customer requirements and specifications.
• Experience interfacing with customer technical and program management personnel.
• Ability to break long-term engineering goals into manageable near-term actions for available design support personnel.
• Experience with 3D modeling, mechanical design, layout, and drawing creation using Siemens NX.

Nice to have

• Aerospace engineering experience in commercial or military environments; commercial vehicle and industrial experience may also be considered.
• Experience with gear design or electrical enclosure design for aerospace or military use is strongly desirable.
