Data Engineer (DBA)

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom; agile working with remote work possible when agreed with the manager, customer, and Zenith.

Salary: £50,000–£60,000 per annum.

What you will do

• Administer and optimise production Microsoft SQL Server environments, including configuration, patching, upgrades, security, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Manage Azure services and data-platform dependencies, including access, monitoring, networking, security, and cost optimisation.
• Build and support data ingestion, transformation, ETL/ELT, and integration pipelines across cloud and on-premises sources.
• Manage backup, restore, high availability, disaster recovery, and regular recovery testing using RPO and RTO principles.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, operational dashboards, and prompt resolution of database, platform, and pipeline issues.
• Deliver migrations, upgrades, modernisation, automation, documentation, runbooks, and operational standards with appropriate testing and rollback plans.

Requirements

• Production administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including maintenance, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Strong SQL and performance-tuning skills covering query optimisation, indexing, execution plans, and capacity management.
• Practical knowledge of backup, restore, high availability, disaster recovery, RPO, and RTO principles.
• Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure environments and data services such as Azure SQL, Data Factory, Storage, Data Lake, or Fabric.
• Experience designing, building, and supporting robust ETL or ELT pipelines and data integrations.
• Knowledge of automation, source control, CI/CD, or infrastructure-as-code using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Azure DevOps, or Git.
• A collaborative, methodical, and customer-focused approach.

Nice to have

• Relevant Microsoft or Azure certifications.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks.
