Lead Data Engineer

Location: Based in one of hirify.global’s Crewe offices, England, United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Design and deliver complex data pipelines and data models at scale.
• Help oversee modern, scalable data platforms supporting Group Data Services & Reporting across all eight business divisions.
• Guide technical direction across data engineering projects and contribute to wider data strategy.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn business needs into impactful data solutions.
• Drive development of AI/ML-ready data platform architecture.
• Establish best practices for data governance, quality, and security while mentoring a growing team.

Requirements

• Degree-level education with a minimum 2:2 (Lower Second Class Honours).
• Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Data Engineer in complex environments.
• Strong hands-on expertise with modern data engineering tools across cloud platforms.
• Deep understanding of ETL/ELT, data architecture, and data quality frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to shape solutions from ambiguity.
• Curiosity and passion for turning data into meaningful business value.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS Redshift, dbt, and Databricks.
• Experience with AI/ML tooling, data preparation, data orchestration, and cataloguing.
• Interest in mentoring and helping others grow.
