Lead Data Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Lead and develop a pod of Data Engineers through coaching, technical direction and delivery ownership.
• Shape technical direction across data modelling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT and scalable data platforms.
• Design and develop complex data pipelines and solutions using dbt, Python, SQL and modern cloud data technologies.
• Improve engineering quality through testing, data quality, observability and automation.
• Collaborate across technology and business teams to turn complex requirements into practical data solutions.
• Explore AI and emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity and delivery.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience using dbt to design, build and improve data transformations in a complex data environment.
• Engineering experience with Python and SQL, including solving complex data problems at scale.
• Ability to design and guide modern data engineering solutions covering data modelling, ETL/ELT, data warehousing and scalable data pipelines.
• Ability to lead and develop Data Engineers while remaining hands-on and providing coaching, technical direction and delivery ownership.
• Interest in AI and automation, with technical curiosity about improving engineering quality, productivity and ways of working.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform; the environment includes EMR, Athena, Lambda, S3, Glue and Step Functions, with transferable experience accepted.
• Experience with Snowflake, Spark, Scala or Airflow, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with Git, GitHub and CI/CD practices, including GitHub Actions.
• Knowledge of real-time data processing, data governance, data quality or observability.
• Experience using AI-enabled engineering tools or automation to improve data engineering productivity, quality or reliability.
