TL;DR
Mechanical Integrity Engineer (Gas Turbine): Assessing the safety, reliability and service life of gas turbine components through stress, thermal and dynamic analysis with an accent on finite element analysis, component lifing and high-temperature material behaviour. Focus on validating structural models against test and fleet data, solving fatigue and creep challenges, and supporting new product and upgrade programmes.
Location: Lincoln, United Kingdom; full-time, onsite role.
Company
hirify.global develops energy technologies, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and digital service solutions, supporting reliable and lower-emission power generation.
What you will do
Perform static, transient, linear and non-linear thermal and thermomechanical finite element analysis of turbine blades, vanes, rotors and casings.
Complete static and dynamic stress analysis and produce component life assessments covering high-cycle fatigue, low-cycle fatigue, thermo-mechanical fatigue and creep.
Support new product and upgrade programmes through component design analysis, root cause analysis, weighted decision analysis and design of experiments.
Define component and engine test requirements and calibrate structural models using engine test data and operational fleet experience.
Produce technical reports, presentations and method documents while improving analysis tool chains, software validation and engineering methods.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with significant mechanical or structural design content, ideally in aerospace, automotive, power generation turbomachinery or materials science, or equivalent verified vocational experience.
At least two years of professional experience in finite element stress analysis and component life calculation.
Sound understanding of stress theory, material behaviour and high-temperature failure mechanisms under cyclic and steady operating conditions.
Knowledge of component stress analysis, dynamic analysis and lifing methods, including fatigue and creep assessment.
Experience with finite element analysis and pre- and post-processing software; Abaqus is ideal, while ANSYS, NX Simcenter, Nastran or RR SC03 are also relevant.
Ability to validate and challenge analysis results using simplified one-dimensional methods and hand calculations.
Effective communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
Culture & Benefits
Work within Turbine Engineering alongside Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer, Materials and testing functions.
Develop specialist expertise in gas turbine structural integrity, high-temperature material behaviour and advanced engineering analysis methods.
26 days of holiday, increasing to 29 days with time served.
Flexible benefits portal, including private medical cover and cycle-to-work schemes.
Adjustable pension scheme, career development and continuous learning opportunities.
