Mechanical Engineer (Natural Gas)

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities across concept and detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project handover.
• Review and approve designs and technical deliverables for compressor packages, gas process systems, pressure vessels, piping, fuel gas, cooling, vent and blowdown, and fire protection systems.
• Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, control, and process engineering disciplines, participating in HAZID, HAZOP, design, constructability, and value engineering reviews.
• Manage mechanical deliverables against schedule and budget, provide technical leadership during procurement and construction, and manage contractor and vendor interfaces.
• Support site construction, inspections, installation reviews, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, system walkdowns, and punch-list management.
• Complete commissioning records, mechanical completion documentation, as-built documentation, and final handover to the client and operations teams while supporting HSE and quality requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within design and project management.
• Experience with natural gas infrastructure, gas transmission networks, energy infrastructure, or oil and gas facilities.
• Experience delivering EPC or Design & Build projects.
• Strong understanding of rotating equipment and compressor systems, including compressor packages.
• Knowledge of pressure systems and gas process facilities, including piping and pressure systems engineering.
• Familiarity with relevant UK and international engineering standards.
• Expertise in mechanical design and project engineering, technical specification development and review, contractor and vendor management, and cost, risk, and schedule management.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, analytical, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership.
• Experience with gas transmission or gas distribution infrastructure projects, high-pressure natural gas facilities, and compressor station upgrades or greenfield developments.
• Knowledge of IGEM standards and UK gas industry practices.
• Experience with gas engine-driven or electric motor-driven compressor systems.
• Familiarity with hazardous area classification, ATEX compliance, and pressure equipment design.
