Senior Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Washington, DC — hybrid; the role may require travel up to 25% and work in classified environments at least 25% of the time.

Salary: $190,000–$250,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build custom integrations and policy enforcement points for cleared customers, scoped to statements of work, tested with QA, and delivered into customer environments.
• Work directly with customer engineers and security teams to understand systems, agree on designs, and explain how the software operates safely.
• Turn repeated customer implementations into reusable templates, libraries, and tools for deployment and forward-deployed engineers.
• Build on product SDKs and APIs, document defects and reproduction details, and collaborate with Product and Platform Engineering.
• Package software for installation, upgrades, and operation in disconnected or air-gapped environments.
• Use AI coding agents, contribute to design reviews, provide documentation and test evidence, and mentor peers.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI US security clearance required.
• Production software development experience, including ownership from design through release and maintenance, with the ability to show delivered work and discuss improvement opportunities.
• Ability to explain software designs, security boundaries, and operational safety to skeptical government security teams and answer follow-up questions.
• Ability to work directly with customers in their environments; this is not a product-only role.
• Ability to build trust and credibility with customers, partners, and internal engineering leaders.
• Ability to challenge assumptions respectfully, act with urgency, collaborate, adapt to shifting priorities, and communicate asynchronously.

Nice to have

• Production .NET on Windows, including Windows Services, signed installers, and managed distribution.
• Go proficiency; the Data Security Platform and OpenTDF are written in Go.
• Kubernetes experience across multiple distributions.
• Identity and authorization integrations using OIDC, SAML, and ABAC.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture, policy enforcement and decision points, cryptography, and identity.
• Experience delivering software into air-gapped or disconnected environments.
• Experience building with AI coding agents.
