Lead Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid; three days per week at a Guardian office in New York, NY; Holmdel, NJ; or Bethlehem, PA, United States. No regular travel is required.

What you will do

• Design and build reusable platform capabilities, production services, APIs, integrations, tooling, and automation.
• Lead strategic engineering initiatives from discovery and requirements gathering through implementation, deployment, operational readiness, and adoption.
• Develop implementation plans, coordinate dependencies, and partner with application, platform, architecture, and engineering teams.
• Improve developer workflows, platform usability, engineering enablement, reliability, observability, documentation, and maintainability.
• Present technical recommendations, create implementation guides and reusable patterns, and facilitate adoption of new capabilities.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions while promoting engineering standards.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including personally designing, building, operating, and shipping production software systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong software development skills using C#, TypeScript, Java, Python, Go, Kotlin, or similar languages.
• Experience building and supporting production services, APIs, integrations, and automation solutions.
• Ability to drive technical initiatives from requirements gathering through implementation and deployment.
• Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams and organizational boundaries, including globally distributed engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience creating technical documentation, implementation plans, and architectural designs.
• Ability to work effectively with evolving requirements, incomplete information, multiple technologies, and business domains.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer experience, platform engineering, internal developer platforms, or engineering enablement.
• Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal.
• Experience building integrations across enterprise platforms and services.
• Experience supporting adoption of engineering tools, frameworks, or organizational engineering practices.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools, engineering productivity solutions, metrics, reporting, or engineering intelligence solutions.
