Staff Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: US Remote - Jersey City, NJ. Remote or hybrid work is available; candidates living within a one-hour commute of a hirify.global office must be onsite most of the time. Remote candidates may be asked to attend an onsite interview. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $165,000–$260,000 per year, with potential eligibility for bonuses, commissions, or other compensation.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and continuously improve internal platforms, CI/CD pipelines, developer environments, deployment workflows, and shared services.
• Create automation and self-service tools that reduce repetitive, error-prone, and slow engineering workflows.
• Prototype and productionize AI-assisted engineering capabilities, including LLM-powered code modification, migration automation, and agentic operational workflows with evaluation, observability, and guardrails.
• Own ambiguous platform challenges from discovery through design, implementation, rollout, and adoption, making build-versus-buy and speed-versus-durability tradeoffs.
• Strengthen cloud and container infrastructure, including Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, networking, and observability, with emphasis on reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Define platform success metrics, use telemetry, write design documents and tradeoff analyses, and collaborate with product teams to drive adoption.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating production software, ideally including substantial platform, infrastructure, developer experience, or similar leverage-oriented work.
• Expert software generalist skills with systems knowledge across backend services, automation pipelines, infrastructure, and internal tools.
• Experience holistically owning complex and broad Developer Platforms and anticipating engineering team needs.
• Fluency in at least one modern platform language such as Python or TypeScript, plus experience with cloud infrastructure, AWS preferred, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and modern CI/CD systems.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or agent-based automation into real engineering workflows and shipping working tools.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems, propose plans, execute, and course-correct quickly.
• Product mindset for internal engineering customers, with attention to usability, adoption, and outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills, including clear design documents, runbooks, and postmortems, and effective collaboration with partner teams.
• Operational ownership from design through deployment and on-call, with a focus on documentation and reliability.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer portals, service catalogs, or fleet and dependency management systems.
• Experience running large-scale code migration or modernization efforts.
• Familiarity with evaluation and observability practices for AI-powered systems.
• Bachelor’s degree or relevant hands-on industry experience.
