Director, Package Development (Beauty Packaging)

Location: West Hollywood, California, United States (hybrid); must work from the corporate office at least 60% of the time.

Base salary: $135,000–$145,000 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus plan.

What you will do

• Lead packaging development from concept evaluation and sourcing through sampling, validation, commercialization, line support, and resourcing.
• Assess packaging feasibility, functionality, manufacturability, cost, tooling, timelines, technical risks, sustainability, and global consistency.
• Source and develop stock and custom primary and secondary packaging, supplier briefs, technical specifications, drawings, component submissions, bills of materials, and fill and assembly instructions.
• Lead packaging testing and validation, including compatibility, transit, drop, and performance testing; develop test protocols, validation plans, and cross-functional SOPs.
• Manage artwork development and review files for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and production readiness.
• Partner with Product Development, Quality, Operations, contract manufacturers, production teams, suppliers, and the Founder to resolve risks, support line trials and pilot runs, and improve manufacturing efficiency.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of package development experience.
• BA/BS in Packaging Engineering, Business Administration, or an equivalent qualification.
• Solid knowledge of the prestige/luxury beauty market and a passion for products, packaging, and their interaction.
• Understanding of packaging sustainability and global compliance.
• Technical competency in analyzing geometric objects in two and three dimensions, including clearances, fit, and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.
• Comprehensive knowledge of materials and decorating techniques used in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.
• Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component and package performance.
• Exceptional project management, problem-solving, analytical, business, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities precisely.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus project management platforms.
