Director, Product Development (Color & Skincare)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid

Annual pay range: $148,000–$192,000.

What you will do

• Lead daily Color and Skincare product development programs, translating approved priorities into timelines, milestones, responsibilities, and deliverables.
• Manage renovations, reformulations, packaging updates, shade extensions, and portfolio maintenance initiatives.
• Direct Packaging Development, including materials, components, tooling, decoration, manufacturability, testing, and validation.
• Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Operations, Creative, Finance, manufacturers, laboratories, and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure production readiness.
• Track program status, risks, dependencies, timing, costs, documentation, and approvals while improving development processes and reducing rework.
• Lead and develop the Packaging Development team and keep Product leadership informed of progress, risks, resources, and recommendations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in beauty product development, technical development, commercialization, or development operations, including people management.
• Meaningful experience across Color Cosmetics and Skincare, with understanding of formulas, packaging, testing, and manufacturing.
• Experience running daily development operations and managing multiple programs with competing timelines and dependencies.
• Track record of improving processes and delivering measurable improvements in timing, quality, cost, or efficiency.
• Strong technical knowledge of packaging development, including materials, components, tooling, testing, and formula-packaging compatibility; experience managing packaging professionals.
• Experience with scale-up, production trials, technical troubleshooting, and transition from development to commercial production.
• Strong vendor management experience with contract manufacturers, laboratories, and domestic and international packaging suppliers.
• Sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, strong organization and analysis, attention to documentation and costs, and clear communication across creative, technical, and operational teams.
• Practical, involved leadership style, genuine interest in beauty, and commitment to product quality, performance, and customer experience.
• Travel as needed to meet vendors, support trials, or work with external partners.
