Director of Development & Automation (AI)

Location: Remote, United States; listed location: Austin, Texas

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 annually, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead the Development & Automation team, establish ownership, coach direct reports, and grow the function as needed.
• Create and implement SOPs and guidelines for intake, prioritization, delivery, documentation, handoffs, and repeatable client AI Services processes.
• Define KPIs, run the weekly delivery cadence, and provide the CTO with clear monthly reporting on delivery, adoption, time saved, and ROI.
• Own the roadmap across AI services, internal data and reporting, and the client-facing software product; resolve competing priorities and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Oversee client AI engagements, product releases, data warehouse and leadership scorecard work, including escalation handling for security, compliance, and data privacy issues.
• Identify manual work and operational friction, turn them into automation and AI solutions, and manage tooling, vendors, budget input, and capacity planning.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in automation, development, data, or technical operations, including 3+ years leading a technical team with direct reports.
• Experience coaching, managing accountability, and running a delivery cadence.
• Track record of establishing SOPs, operating rhythms, and KPIs for teams that previously lacked them, and ensuring adoption.
• Experience leading specialists who are more technically deep in their domains while setting outcomes and monitoring progress without micromanaging.
• Experience shipping AI, automation, or software that produced measurable results rather than only pilots or presentations.
• Strong technical grounding in the Microsoft stack, including M365/Azure, Power Platform, Power BI, APIs, and integrations, sufficient to unblock, review, and build when needed.
• Comfort with client-facing work and difficult discussions involving data, security, and compliance.
• Ability to translate non-technical stakeholder needs into delivered solutions.
• Ability to thrive in a lean, fast-moving environment; candidates requiring heavy corporate structure are not a fit.

Nice to have

• MSP, SaaS, or multi-client service experience.
• Background in software product delivery or data/BI leadership.
