Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote

Salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Own technical research and vendor selection for data enrichment providers, integration partners, and engineering tools, including requirements mapping, feature comparison, cost analysis, and recommendations.
• Architect technical solutions and scale the application in collaboration with customers, product leaders, and engineering teams.
• Create research, vendor selection rubrics, metrics, profiling, and reporting for engineering and C-suite review.
• Manage engineering leads, provide architectural direction, mentor teams, and remove blockers on complex projects.
• Lead customer-facing technical discussions covering requirements, integrations, system architecture, and implementation details.
• Build vendor and integration partnerships, negotiate pricing, and provide backup to the CTO on customer, vendor, and architectural matters.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in technical roles with increasing responsibility.
• Strong architectural knowledge and the ability to understand and discuss code, especially Python, without writing code daily.
• Exceptional communication skills for presenting to customers, explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and maintaining clear documentation.
• Experience evaluating technical options, comparing vendors, identifying requirements, and making data-informed recommendations.
• Experience managing people, including managers, and providing technical direction without micromanaging.
• Experience managing vendor relationships, evaluating technical partnerships, selecting vendors, and negotiating partnerships.
• Ability to own ambiguous projects from start to finish with limited oversight.
• Startup mentality and willingness to build processes and wear multiple hats in a fast-paced, high-growth, self-directed environment.

Nice to have

• SaaS or enterprise software architecture experience.
• Background in fintech, CRM platforms, or data-intensive applications.
• Azure infrastructure experience; certificates are welcome.
• Direct experience with Python, Django, API design, integrations, or AI infrastructure.
• Familiarity with private equity or financial services workflows.
• Previous experience as a Solutions Architect or Technical Architect.
