Head of Engineering – Manufacturing (AI Native)

Location: Staines-upon-Thames, England, United Kingdom; roles provide a balance of remote and in-office working. Customer-facing work includes on-site visits and travel to key manufacturing customer locations.

What you will do

• Lead a multi-layered engineering organization including Engineering Directors, Architects, and Principal Engineers.
• Define and execute the Manufacturing engineering strategy aligned with product vision, architecture direction, and company priorities.
• Own delivery outcomes across multiple teams, establishing scalable operating models and predictable, high-quality execution.
• Guide architectural direction, platform evolution, system design standards, and engineering discipline across teams.
• Drive organization-wide adoption of practical, responsible AI-assisted engineering and AI-enabled Manufacturing capabilities.
• Partner with Product Management, Architecture, and Manufacturing leaders while representing Engineering in strategic forums.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in software engineering and enterprise application development.
• Extensive experience leading Directors, Managers, and senior technical experts.
• Proven delivery of large-scale, complex software systems across multiple teams.
• Deep understanding of modern cloud-native architectures, APIs, distributed systems, and agentic workflows.
• Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and technical levels, with strong communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience maintaining high standards for CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, observability, security, and operational excellence.
• Customer obsession and ability to work hands-on with customers on site, including travel to key manufacturing customer locations.
