Java Team Lead (Healthcare)

hirify.global is expanding an Eastern European R&D team for a client operating a digital healthcare platform that connects young women with healthcare providers and local partners across multiple African countries.

What you will do

• Lead and develop the backend engineering team through 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, mentoring, and professional development.
• Coordinate engineering priorities, delivery, knowledge sharing, and effective engineering practices.
• Contribute hands-on to Java backend services and the platform’s technical evolution.
• Drive technical and architectural decisions with the wider engineering organization.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure microservices while maintaining standards for testing, security, documentation, and code quality.
• Collaborate with distributed technical teams across Africa and Europe and support new platform capabilities and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong focus on Java/JVM technologies.
• 3+ years of formal leadership experience managing backend engineering teams.
• People-management experience including performance reviews, regular 1:1s, feedback, and professional development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring; solid experience designing and developing microservices-based systems.
• Production experience with AWS.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, system design, testing, security, and maintainability.
• Experience coordinating distributed engineering teams and collaborating across locations.
• Ability to combine people leadership with technical decision-making and hands-on engineering involvement.
• Excellent written and spoken English at Upper-Intermediate+ level.

Nice to have

• Experience with Scala or mixed Java/Scala environments.
• Experience with Salesforce CRM or Salesforce integrations.
