Senior Data Scientist - Workflow Automation (AI)

Location: New York, NY, US; hybrid role with work from home and 3 office days set by the employee and team

What you will do

• Identify and prioritize business processes suitable for automation and align requirements with stakeholders across the company.
• Design, build, test, and maintain production-grade automations, including workflows built with platforms such as n8n.
• Write technical design documents that define approaches, tradeoffs, scope, and expectations.
• Develop custom logic, data transformations, and API integrations connecting internal systems, databases, and third-party services.
• Monitor production workflows, troubleshoot failures, and implement error handling and alerting.
• Document workflows so they can be maintained and extended by other team members.

Requirements

• 4+ years of relevant experience as an applied data scientist or in a similar technical, data-oriented role; prior LLM experience is required.
• Bachelor’s, master’s, and/or Ph.D. in computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Ability to proactively identify and scope automation opportunities and drive execution end to end rather than only implementing predefined specifications.
• Understanding of AI system evaluation, including analyzing output quality, identifying improvement areas, and communicating their impact to stakeholders.
• Curiosity and knowledge to investigate, discover, and evaluate emerging AI architectures and designs.
• Experience collaborating with technical team members in a production development environment using formal version control and Python or JavaScript.
• Experience parsing JSON, transforming payloads, and connecting to databases or third-party services, such as through REST APIs.
• Clear and confident communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data analyses and tell a compelling story.
• Impact-oriented approach focused on creating meaningful change for customers, users, and patients.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with workflow automation platforms such as n8n, Zapier, Make, or Airflow.
• Deeper understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, API keys, and related authentication patterns.
• Background in consulting, data analysis, solutions engineering, data engineering, or a similar hybrid technical/product role.
