Senior Software Development Engineer - AI Tools

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; Flex Work requires spending at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners, depending on the role.

Annual base salary: $190,100–$285,100 USD for the primary location; additional Canadian locations: $151,200–$226,800 CAD.

What you will do

• Design and build the AI platform layer, including LLM gateways, MCP registries, abstraction APIs, and shared infrastructure.
• Architect and implement AI agents and automation for code review, documentation, testing, and developer workflows.
• Evaluate and integrate AI model providers while balancing cost, safety, and performance.
• Lead technical design for complex cross-cutting projects with Security, DevEx, and infrastructure teams.
• Build observability, governance, and compliance tooling for responsible enterprise AI usage.
• Support internal engineers through office hours, Slack, and the Champions program, incorporating user feedback into the tools.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building and operating backend services or platform infrastructure in production.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience building or integrating with LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic, with familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation pipelines, and model-selection tradeoffs.
• Strong understanding of AI security and responsible AI, including prompt injection, model misuse, data leakage, output validation, and production policy guardrails.
• Experience designing and building reliable production AI agents, including agentic frameworks and patterns such as ReAct.
• Experience building MCP servers, Claude skills, or similar tool-use integrations.
• Ability to design REST APIs and service-oriented architectures; experience with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud deployments, workflow orchestration, or infrastructure-as-code.
• Understanding of enterprise security patterns including authentication, authorization, SSO, and secrets management.
• Exposure to logging, metrics, and tracing; strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to align engineering, security, and product stakeholders.
• Genuine interest in emerging AI models, tools, and frameworks, plus comfort partnering directly with engineers and supporting adoption.

Nice to have

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools and infrastructure-as-code.
