Manager, Software Engineering

Location: United States - Remote; optional collaborative workspaces are available in Austin, Atlanta, and London.

Base salary: $164,800–$284,000 annually, with potential variable compensation, equity, and benefits according to local policies.

What you will do

• Build, lead, hire, and develop a high-caliber software engineering team.
• Drive the technical roadmap, stack direction, and engineering decisions supporting quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security.
• Lead engineers in building ecommerce products while fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and a positive engineering culture.
• Combine hands-on technical leadership with people management, coaching, mentoring, 1:1s, objectives, expectations, and performance improvement plans.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders across corporate offices to improve communication and coordination.
• Create and participate in an on-call rotation for incident management and enforce engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building systems with technologies such as PHP, Go, Python, TypeScript, Angular, or Ruby.
• Knowledge of gRPC, RabbitMQ, and caching solutions.
• 2+ years managing engineering teams, including growing senior talent and building team structure from the ground up.
• Experience with relational databases, external service integrations, and both backend and frontend UI development.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and leading sprint ceremonies.
• Solid UNIX/LAMP knowledge, ideally including 2+ years working with PHP, MySQL, and Linux.
• Ability to break problems into smaller deliverable and deployable pieces.
• BS degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform or cloud computing.
• Experience with SaaS platforms or cloud computing.
• Prior experience at a commerce software company.
