Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid, with an expectation to work from a hub in Toronto, Canada, or San Francisco, United States.

Salary: Toronto CA$150K–CA$211K plus equity; San Francisco estimated US$190K–US$255K plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a team of software engineers, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
• Own the roadmap and delivery for Autofill and Smart Workflows, balancing AI capabilities with reliability and operational health.
• Direct the software development lifecycle from scoping and design through release and monitoring.
• Partner with Product to turn agentic and orchestration concepts into shipped features with measurable customer outcomes.
• Collaborate on architecture, data modeling, AI pipeline boundaries, platform dependencies, customer launches, and migrations.
• Establish incident response, escalation, root-cause review, written planning, documented decisions, and recorded demos.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years managing engineers.
• Experience shipping AI-powered product features in production, including LLM-based extraction, orchestration, or agentic workflows.
• Comfort working with AI evaluation, non-determinism, data quality, and operational load.
• Experience running teams responsible for escalations and incidents while delivering the roadmap.
• Strong product sense and ability to make prioritization tradeoffs with Product partners.
• Experience managing engineers across multiple locations and time zones.
• Clear, direct written and verbal communication.

• Experience in vertical SaaS, legal tech, or workflow and case management products.
