Principal Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Lone Tree, Colorado, United States; remote, hybrid, or in-office work options are stated, with hybrid work and occasional travel required.

Estimated starting salary: $173,260.72–$238,233.49 annually, with additional performance-based incentive pay.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for advanced aerospace software systems.
• Lead major software development, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on performance and reliability.
• Define software requirements and specifications with stakeholders and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet quality and regulatory standards.
• Create and maintain software documentation, including design specifications and user manuals.
• Conduct high-level code reviews, provide strategic technical feedback, and promote engineering best practices.
• Mentor engineering teams and represent software engineering in strategic meetings and decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a higher relevant degree may substitute for experience. A master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 14 years of software development experience, unless substituted by a higher relevant degree.
• Expert proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python.
• Extensive software development leadership experience and demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and perform the hand and finger movements needed for coding and testing.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with occasional travel.

Nice to have

• Expertise in advanced software technologies such as AI, machine learning, or cloud computing.
• Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded systems.
• Significant aerospace and defense industry experience.
• Knowledge of C, C#, C++, HTML, Java, Python, and Bash.
• Experience with requirements tracking, code review, static analysis, library and artifact repositories, and automated build tools.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, or Spiral methodologies and proficiency with data structures.
