Staff Data Platform Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Virtual, Illinois, United States of America; occasional travel to a physical hirify.global office may be required.

Salary: $185,000–$235,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and implementation of ingestion, transformation, and orchestration infrastructure for the Data Engine.
• Design extensible data models, transformation frameworks, and configuration-driven abstractions for heterogeneous client and source data.
• Build reusable developer and operations tooling for independently developing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining integrations.
• Design scalable execution patterns for thousands of independently managed data pipelines and workloads.
• Improve reliability, observability, recovery, monitoring, and infrastructure efficiency through automation.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Software Engineering, and Operations on platform delivery and client rollouts.

Requirements

• 8+ years of data platform, data engineering, or software engineering experience with production-grade data systems.
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, SQL, transformation frameworks, orchestration, and data quality.
• Extensive Python experience building extensible frameworks, reusable abstractions, and developer tooling.
• Experience designing and scaling data platforms, including orchestration, pipeline execution, and infrastructure for large numbers of independently managed workloads.
• Experience designing configuration-driven systems that generalize complex processing requirements.
• Experience supporting production applications and operational workflows beyond analytics or reporting, with strong reliability, availability, and observability requirements.
• Ability to establish technical direction independently and drive platform architecture and integrated delivery across Product and Engineering.
• Fluency with approved agentic coding practices.
• Applicants must have US work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Dagster or comparable modern data orchestration platforms.
• Healthcare or benefits data experience.
• Experience optimizing cloud infrastructure, platform costs, and operational support models, particularly in AWS.
