Manager, Substation Test (Protection and Control)

Location: Hybrid; multiple locations throughout California, United States

Salary: $143,000–$244,000 annual base salary in California; $151,000–$257,000 in the Bay Area.

What you will do

• Lead teams testing and commissioning protection and control systems for transmission lines and distribution substations.
• Ensure maintenance and construction work meets quality, safety, regulatory, and NERC compliance requirements.
• Coordinate testing resources across regional, complex, and interconnection projects.
• Manage capital and operating budgets, forecasts, expenses, and unit-cost targets.
• Develop performance metrics and provide operational data to management.
• Hold teams accountable for safety practices and emergency preparedness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Project Management, a related field, or equivalent related experience installing and maintaining substation protection and control equipment.
• 10 years of experience in the electric utility industry, including 5 years in Protection and Control Testing.
• 5 years of leadership experience.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Project Management, or a related field.
• Electrical Technician apprenticeship completion certificate.
• PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or P.E. license.
• Knowledge of contracts covering IBEW-represented employees.
• Knowledge of substations, grid operations, automation, protection, or project management.
