Principal Architect (Cloud FinOps)

Salary: $152,066–$202,755, $159,670–$212,893, or $167,273–$223,031 depending on state.

What you will do

• Define and govern multi-cloud architecture standards, reference architectures, solution patterns, and governance frameworks across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Embed FinOps and cost optimization into architecture and engineering practices, including unit economics, chargeback/showback, allocation, and cloud costing models.
• Lead application rationalization, cloud migration, platform modernization, rightsizing, scheduling, consolidation, and commitment-based optimization.
• Establish cloud consumption, tagging, lifecycle, capacity-planning, compliance, risk, and financial governance standards.
• Partner with engineering teams on policy-as-code, FinOps-as-Code, cost controls, dashboards, reporting, and optimization tooling.
• Present architecture strategies, ROI analyses, TCO assessments, and investment roadmaps to senior leadership while mentoring architects, engineers, and FinOps practitioners.

Requirements

• 12+ years of enterprise architecture, cloud architecture, or technology strategy experience, including 8+ years of public cloud experience across Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud Platform and 5+ years of FinOps, cloud economics, cloud governance, or cost optimization experience.
• Experience influencing executive stakeholders and enterprise architecture decisions.
• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, governance, cloud economics, financial management, FinOps operating models, unit economics, and allocation methodologies.
• Experience with cloud migration strategies, Kubernetes, container platforms, Infrastructure-as-Code, including Terraform, Bicep, and CloudFormation.
• Experience with cost management platforms such as Flexera, CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, or native CSP tooling, plus AI/ML platform architecture and cost optimization.
• Financial modeling and forecasting, budget management, executive communications, business capability mapping, and strategic planning skills.
• At least one advanced FinOps certification and one major cloud architecture certification are required.
• Required FinOps certification: one or more of FOCP, FCE, FCP, FinOps Certified Cloud Practitioner, or FinOps for Containers.
• Required cloud architecture certification: one or more of AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect.

Nice to have

• TOGAF 9/10, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Certified Kubernetes Application Developer, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
