Kitchen Team Intern, Wirecutter

Location: Hybrid role based in New York City, with work at the office and test facility in Long Island City, New York

Salary: $20.00 per hour ($20–$20 USD)

What you will do

• Work with writers and editors in the test lab to design and execute testing of kitchen products.
• Help conduct panel testing and administer taste tests, including organizing, labeling, and serving brand-concealed samples.
• Place product orders, unbox and organize products, and support testing setups and cleanups.
• Visit grocery stores to source ingredients for tests and photo shoots.
• Contribute research, reporting, and writing to product guides and articles; pitch ideas to the kitchen and related teams.
• Support journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of journalistic experience or training.
• Strong research skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills in a busy, dynamic setting.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and meet deadlines across multiple projects.
• Self-organization, motivation, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
• General enthusiasm for the kitchen-related beats covered by the team.

Nice to have

• Enthusiasm for product research and testing methods.
• Experience working in a laboratory or research-focused setting.
• Interest in video, social media, and visual storytelling.
