Temporary Senior Editor, Visuals

Location: Hybrid role requiring at least 2 days per week in the Washington, D.C. office; residence required in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.

Hourly rate: $61.30 USD per hour.

hirify.global is a mission-driven multimedia organization producing news, information, and music programming with public radio stations and content partners.

What you will do

• Commission and edit original photography and illustrations for hirify.global stories, podcasts, and digital platforms.
• Research, license, caption, credit, and publish images across hirify.global.org, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and emerging platforms.
• Innovate, produce, assess, and iterate visual projects while contributing to audience-development strategies.
• Coordinate with photographers, illustrators, agencies, vendors, member stations, journalists, and content partners on visual asset acquisition, contracts, invoices, and distribution.
• Research, pitch, write, and produce stories for The Picture Show visual blog; occasionally edit photography for breaking news and major events.
• Provide guidance to Visuals colleagues and uphold hirify.global's standards for visual journalism, copyright, and ethical storytelling.

Requirements

• Photographic storytelling experience, preferably with a major network or newsroom, studio, or creative agency.
• Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud programs related to video and photo design, including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere.
• Extensive experience with content management systems.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under stringent deadlines and changing priorities or conditions.
• Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills for coordinating assignments across teams and timelines.
• Commitment to increasing audience diversity and strong interest in current events.
• Knowledge of copyright and ethical journalism practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cooperative team.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
