Civil Engineering Associate, Transportation (Roadway Design)

Location: Hybrid role based in Alexandria, Richmond, Virginia Beach, or Manassas, Virginia, United States

Salary: $85,000–$120,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop design plans, engineering calculations, and cost estimates for conceptual, preliminary, and final bid packages.
• Support and eventually lead roadway, highway, drainage, and maintenance of traffic control plan design.
• Deliver traditional design-bid-build and design-build highway projects for VDOT and local agencies.
• Use the VDOT OpenRoads environment, including OpenRoads Designer and SUDA modules.
• Collaborate on roadway, highway, bridge, rail, transportation planning, traffic control, signing, pavement marking, hydraulic design, and environmental document projects.
• Contribute to a collaborative, quality-focused transportation engineering team.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of related experience.
• BSCE in Civil Engineering.
• Experience with VDOT roadway projects.
• Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to support or lead design tasks for complex transportation projects.
• Goal-oriented, quality-focused approach and demonstrated ability to work within and foster a team environment.
