Private Debt Valuation (Finance)

Annual base salary: $145,000–$165,000 USD

What you will do

• Oversee valuations for private debt, commercial mortgage loans, infrastructure debt, asset-based finance, and other complex or illiquid credit instruments.
• Review and challenge valuation methodologies, assumptions, inputs, models, market evidence, and conclusions, including DCF, market, transaction, and yield-based approaches.
• Manage valuation exceptions, price challenges, back-testing, calibration, provider due diligence, methodology reviews, and ongoing performance monitoring.
• Develop valuation policies, procedures, governance forums, escalation processes, controls, and risk-management improvements.
• Present valuation matters to committees, senior management, auditors, clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor valuation professionals while partnering with investment, finance, accounting, operations, technology, legal, compliance, and risk teams; drive operating-model improvements, automation, and AI initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in valuation, valuation advisory, credit analysis, audit, risk management, or related fields, including deep knowledge of financial metrics, capital structures, and financial statements.
• Strong knowledge of ASC 820 Fair Value Measurement, SEC Rule 2a-5, and valuation practices for illiquid credit investments.
• Experience with DCF, comparable company analysis, precedent transaction analysis, and reviewing or challenging complex valuation models and methodologies.
• Experience with private credit, commercial mortgage loans, infrastructure debt, asset-based finance, or other specialty credit sectors.
• Strong project management skills, understanding of internal business controls, independent judgment, accuracy, organization, and a control and risk-management mindset.
• Prior experience leading teams and developing investment or valuation professionals.
• Experience working with auditors and third-party service providers, including pricing vendors and administrators.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting valuation matters to senior management, valuation committees, auditors, and clients; high ethics, values, and integrity.
