Principal Scientist, High Throughput Production and Automation Group Leader, Discovery Biologics (Biologics Automation)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; US and Puerto Rico residents only

Base salary: $194,100–$305,600 per year, plus potential annual bonus and long-term incentive.

What you will do

• Lead a team of four FTEs in molecular biology and high-throughput protein production.
• Direct high-throughput production queues that translate protein engineering and hit-identification designs into screening sets of therapeutics.
• Improve physical and digital workflows and guide expansion of automated biologic production and characterization platforms.
• Manage liquid handlers, peripheral equipment, and outsourcing CROs for molecular biology and protein production.
• Partner across Discovery Biologics, Therapeutic Areas, and multidisciplinary teams to support therapeutic programs.
• Mentor scientists, develop talent, promote scientific excellence, and champion inclusion.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in a relevant STEM field with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master’s with 12+ years, or a Bachelor’s with 14+ years of relevant experience in biochemistry or a related field.
• Increasing responsibility and independence in a similar industrial setting.
• Experience supporting biologic therapeutic discovery programs.
• Extensive production group leadership experience, including talent acquisition, retention, and development.
• Deep expertise in high-throughput molecular biology and protein production methodologies.
• Experience developing, adapting, and continuously using integrated automated biologic production and characterization platforms with automated data capture.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced matrixed reporting model across multiple parallel projects.
• Established external reputation through high-impact publications, presentations, and/or scientific community engagement.
• Required skills include antibody discovery, assay development, automation, biologics, expression vectors, high-throughput screening, molecular biology techniques, people management, protein expression and purification, structural biology, and therapeutic proteins.

Nice to have

• Therapeutic project leadership resulting in candidate selection and beyond.
• Experience with protein therapeutics beyond antibodies, including higher-valency and complex Fc-containing therapeutics, fusion proteins, and antigens.
• Leadership in designing and deploying integrated walkaway automated biologic production and characterization platforms.
