Senior Research Scientist I (Protein Purification)

What you will do

• Develop protein purification schemes for antibodies, biospecifics, and other protein-based technologies.
• Investigate complex analytical results, propose robust solutions, and review literature to design purification approaches.
• Analyze, interpret, and clearly present results in summaries, lab notebooks, and batch records.
• Generate and follow SOPs for cGMP material production, maintain laboratory instruments, and follow mammalian cell culture and protein purification procedures.
• Optimize methods, troubleshoot process development issues, and facilitate technology transfer to CMOs.
• Work independently and cross-functionally while mentoring and supervising staff and collaborating with management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field plus 9–13 years of direct hands-on protein purification experience; or a master’s degree plus 7–11 years; or a PhD plus 4–8 years.
• Direct hands-on experience with protein purification techniques including chromatography and tangential flow filtration.
• Proficiency in affinity, ion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography using FPLC systems.
• Ability to design and execute experiments, apply scientific principles, analyze data, and solve process development problems.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities, multitask, remain flexible, and work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with strong documentation and organization.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and implement improved procedures.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen; occupational health screening may also be required.
• Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and work with required personal protective equipment around biological and chemical hazards.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of experimental design and data analysis using Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Supervisory experience or ability to take on supervisory responsibilities.
